Arrow 4×06: Lost Souls
“What is that?”
“A message, from the ancients, leading to a very special gift. A heart of water.”
(Found in the chamber Constantine opened on Lian Yu in Arrow 4×05)
Sometimes, I don’t know if Constantine is a deliberate troll or something.
My Mandarin Chinese isn’t the best, but the tattoos Constantine transferred over to Oliver has four Chinese characters. The top one seems to be ‘mouse/rat’; the bottom-most one seems to be ‘pig’. They all seem to be written in traditional Chinese characters.
In Hellblazer #243, Constantine simply scribbled the Chinese characters for ‘scoundrel’ within a pentacle and pretended it was an occult symbol just to trick someone.
Trolling is an interesting possibility, but I doubt it. That’s way too much kerfuffle for a story device. If the translated bits are correct, it could constitute the zodiac which starts with Rat & ends with Pig.
This page should help you know what the tattoos mean, but in short, ‘Rat, ginger, potential surname, pig’. Lol.
The Chinese characters for the Chinese zodiac animals are definitely nothing like the middle two of the four that were passed on to Oliver, although if it really turned out to be a spell of some sort, I would so love a backstory on what in the world motivated a spell using those particular random words. I’m sure that because the Con-job was involved, it would be a hell of a backstory (and one that I’d totally love to read about).
Constantine 1×11: A Whole World Out There
Spell to travel to other realms/planes of existence or for out of body travel. The Egyptian Dream Temple Technique was used.
“Doo-wat ak-em ka ren el-bee shoit. Doo-wat ak-em ma-at.”
(If anyone happens to have a transcription of the entire command/spell used, please let me know. Thank you)—
I can only make out three words:
1. “Duat” – The realm ruled by Osiris; the Underworld;
2. “Aken” – The name of the custodian (ferryman) of the boat that carried souls into the Underworld;
3. “Ma’at” – A concept of equilibrium and justice; sometimes personified as a Goddess—
With thanks to @catvincent:
Also ‘Khem’, which can mean either Wise, Dark or Egypt, depending on inflection

From TV Transcript Database:
“Doo-wat ak-em ka ren el-bee shoit. Doo-wat ak-em ma-at.”

Update #1 from @thehallofjudgment:
The incantation you have (the Astral Travel one) is purely phonetic, how the words should be pronounced. The best way I can think of it is this:
Duat Aken, Ka, Ren, Ba, Ib, Sheut,
Duat Aken Ma’at.Duat – a metaphysical Spirit World, where everything connnected to Egyptian magic and afterlife seems to occur. It contains the Egyptian paradise (Aaru).
Aken – as mentioned before, the ferryman of the dead (compare with Greek Charon).
Ka, Ren, Ba, Ib, and Sheut – five parts of a human soul, according to the Ancient Egyptians. “Ka” is the spark of life, the only part that distinguishes the living from the dead. “Ren” is the name, the essence of a living being. “Ba” is personality, what makes the person unique. “Ib” is the heart, the sum of good and bad deeds (A person’s Ib is later judged by Osiris, to see if they’re worthy of paradise). Finally, “Sheut” is the shadow – an imprint of the person in both the physical world and Duat. If nothing else, I’d compare it to a failsafe program – a small piece of the soul is hidden inside the shadow.
Ma’at is both an Egyptian goddess of order, as well as the concept of balance and harmony itself.
When all of those elements are put together, we may conclude that this spell is a prayer to Akem the Ferryman, to guide the person (all five parts of them) through Duat safely (“with Ma’at”)

A compilation of Hellblazer/Hogwarts fan fictions recommended by followers:Hellblazer: Hogwarts by Camwyn (note: dead fic, but really well written)
“Sometimes, life bashes you upside the head with a brick in a sock. Hogwarts is about to get its latest Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, a man cast adrift from his native world- a man named John Constantine.”Professor Constantine of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry by Flakingnapstich
“The Battle for Hogwarts is long over, the school mostly rebuilt. Hermione Granger is returning to school for her seventh and final year as a Hogwarts student. Today is her first defense Against the Dark Arts class, taught by the first Muggle professor in Hogwarts history, John Constantine.”The Laughing Professor by Captain-Emily (one-shot, complete)
“Is Hogwarts really ready for the cynical, foul-mouthed, chain-smoking Professor John Constantine?”
“By the Judge of the Living and the Dead! By that, who has the power to cast into Hell! Leave this kingdom immediately!”
Arrow 4×05: Haunted.
I’m unsure what this incantation does – help? (from Forever Dreaming)
“Per júdicem vivórum et mortuórum! Qui habet potestatem mittere in infernum! Ut abire ex regno protinus!”
“By the Judge of the Living and the Dead! By that who has the power to cast into Hell! Leave this kingdom immediately!”
(Note: Exact same spell used to banish Furficer back to Hell in Constantine 1×01)

My friend directed me to this page, which says:
“The Chinese tattoo on his right side seems to consist of a bunch of random characters “鼠姜姚猪” which do not make sense when put together. Individually, the characters mean “mouse”, “ginger”, “Yao” (normally used as a surname), and “pig”. (Source: chinesetatoos.org)”

Does anyone notice that the sigil they laid Sarah into/onto contains elements of the first alphabet or design on sign found on Lian Yu?
I recognize (skip) Othala, Laguz (skip) Berkana and Nauthiz on the first sign.
